Behavior at Arlington Traditional School

Arlington Traditional School fosters the growth of the whole child. With Arlington Public Schools, we are committed to nurture all students’ intellectual, physical, mental, and social-emotional growth in healthy, safe and supportive learning environments. As a result, ATS creates a school wide community through Responsive Classroom® Principles and Practices. Each teacher emphasizes the development of academic and behavioral skills in a learning environment that is responsive to developmental strengths and needs. Within a classroom, teachers facilitate a classroom community centered on building relationships, goal setting, and opportunities for students to learn social and emotional competencies such as: cooperation, assertiveness, responsibility, empathy, and self-control and set of academic competencies: academic mindset, perseverance, learning strategies, and academic behaviors. In conclusion, ATS provides a learning atmosphere where students feel safe and supported while learning lifelong healthy behaviors they can continue throughout their lives.
