Special Education Teacher
Grade 1

Role
As a teacher, my goal is to engage and motivate all students. From differentiating instruction to utilizing best teaching strategies, I want all students to learn and have fun.

Professional Background
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Business Economics from South Dakota State University. Upon graduation, I dabbed my foot in the business world and decided to become a teacher. I returned to school to complete my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After graduation I moved to Maryland and began teaching in Montgomery County Public Schools for three years. I began teaching in Arlington Public Schools in 2016 and have been at ATS since.  In 2017, I completed my Masters of Education from my alma mater, Augustana University.

Personal Interests
I live in Arlington with my husband and our Jack Russell Terrier, Puddles. In my free time, I love to attend sporting events (Go Nats!) and watching the Minnesota Vikings. I enjoy spending time with my husband, traveling to new places and visiting friends and family.

Literary Connection
One of my all-time favorite children’s authors is Patricia Polacco. My college professor introduced her books during one of her classes and I have been hooked ever since. I love how she uses her own experiences to write the stories.  One of my favorites, Thank You, Mr. Falker is about how a teacher impacted her life. Her teacher, Mr. Falker, understood that Patricia learned differently and did what he could to help her.  I enjoy reading it with my students each year.
