Classroom Teacher, Kindergarten
My name is Ben Greenwell and I have been here at ATS since January 2014. Prior to that, I was in a successful career as a carpenter for 10 years. My first two years at ATS were spent teaching 3rd grade, and since then, my role has been a Kindergarten Teacher. I love teaching and working with young children, and I believe in the philosophies of Arlington Traditional School which has made this experience work so wonderfully. Teaching runs through my family as my aunt was a school psychologist, my uncle is a principal, and my sister-in-law is a pre-k teacher.
I love “the outdoors!” I was born and raised along the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and have spent most of my life enjoying outdoor activities. I am also a dedicated fitness enthusiast and love to challenge myself with Spartan Races and training challenges. Traveling and road trips with my family are also at the top of my personal interests! We love to explore new places and try new foods while experiencing the culture of different regions of our country. I’ve been married to my best friend, Grace, since 2004 and have 3 children: Trinity (2010), Anabelle (2012), and Everett (2019).
I love teaching children to read! Watching nonreaders become readers is an incredible experience. I have been filling my mind with different trainings and books on dyslexia and reading difficulties. My great aunt was a highly skilled Dyslexia Specialist, sought by many throughout the country for her expertise. My long term vision includes becoming an expert in Dyslexia support.
