Classroom Teacher – 4th Grade
I graduated from Stevenson University in 2012 with a BS in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I have taught both kindergarten and second grade in Howard County, Maryland. In 2019, I graduated from Towson University with a MS in Reading Education. 2021 marks my first year as a Virginia educator. I am very excited to be a part of the ATS community.
As a native Marylander, I love crabs, the ocean, the Ravens, and the Orioles. I believe that Old Bay should be sprinkled on almost all foods. When I’m not at school, I enjoy running, traveling, and spending time with family. I can also be found walking my enormous English Mastiff, Boomer. He loves cuddling, playing, and eating donuts.
Children’s literature is my favorite literary genre. Although I enjoy reading adult nonfiction, nothing compares to reading books aloud to children. One of my favorite books to read aloud is The World According to Humphrey. This book is the first in a series of tales about Humphrey, the class hamster. Humphrey narrates his daily adventures in room 26 as well as his weekend sleepovers. Humphrey goes home with a different student each weekend. By the end of the story, I have the students begging for a class pet and hooked to read more books in the series.
