Classroom Teacher – Pre-K

Role

As a preschool teacher, my role is to help our youngest learners to discover a love of learning. My goal is to establish a community in our classroom where every student feels safe to explore, learn, and grow in a fun and nurturing environment.

Professional Background

I began my career in education in 2006 in Fredericksburg, VA. I worked with their preschool programs (Head Start and Virginia Preschool Initiative) for 8 years. I came to Arlington Public Schools in 2014 and have worked at Barcroft (VPI and 1st Grade) and Ashlawn (Kindergarten and 1st Grade) before moving to ATS.

Personal Interests

I grew up in a small town in North Carolina and still love all things NC related! My husband grew up in New York and his passion for sports has made me a Yankees and Giants fan too! Along with our daughter, we enjoy visiting pick-your-own farms in Virginia, trying new recipes, and playing board games! I am passionate about picture books and have a massive personal library, but somehow keep discovering books that I can’t live without!

Literary Connection

One of my favorite children’s books is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. In it, the caterpillar explores the world around him, taking on bigger and bigger challenges each day. When he overdoes it, getting back to nature sets him right. I love this book because the artwork and story seem simple, but there are wonderful lessons and complexities if you look deeper. I especially love the ending, which is also a beginning!
